Tips for Great-Looking Hairstyles

As for great-looking hairstyles and overall hair care, here are some suggestions:
- Consult with a good hairstylist. Ask him (or her) what hairstyles will fit you, taking into consideration the shape of your face, the natural shade of your skin, and your lifestyle. Ask him if you should also have some color highlights done on your hair.
- Opt for a layered hairstyle that will give your hair a soft, smooth bounce.
- To give your straight hair body and bounce, set it with big rollers for at least 30 minutes, and then blow-dry hair. Apply molding mud or styling gel on your hair from the nape going out, and then use your fingers to brush down hair naturally and give it body and style.
- Opt for a free-flowing hairstyle for casual occasions. For more formal affairs, put your hair up with the use of hair pins, but let your hair still flow naturally. Fringes to the side of the face are sensuously attractive.
- Wash off chemicals (hair spray, styling mousse, sculpting gel) from your hair before going to bed.
Soft, bouncy and layered hairstyles
Hairstyles this year are short and bouncy and layered. “Nothing heavy. It has to have movement, so shorter hairstyles are ‘in.’ But you can wear your hair long, too, if you want to. It must be layered, though, to give it a soft bounce and definition. As for fine or limp hair, you need only a body perm W vivo it softness and bounce,” says a hair expert.
What about the hair color and color highlights that we all went crazy over in the past few years? According to a hairstylist, they will still be very much around this season. “Color highlights give hair a lift, and the shades of the season are brown,” he says.
Hair Care Tips
- If hair is limp and thin, try using an electric jumbo hair setter. Rollers only have to be left in the hair for a few minutes for lots of volume. Large rollers also add volume to permed hair.
- To protect hair from breakage, use coated rubber bands when pulling hair into a ponytail or braid.
- To add extra body to fine hair, use a volumizing styling product. First, apply to root area and style as usual. Finish with a light mist to hold style in place. Silicone in spray provides extra shine, too.
- To keep loose ends from flying out of a braid, apply a silicone-based gel to the hair or braid while wet.
- To add fullness and lift to hair, apply mousse at roots and blow dry. An alcohol-free mousse also protects hair from heat and sun damage.
- To avoid shampoo build-up or residue, use a quarter-size amount of shampoo and lather the scalp and hair. Rinse with cool water.
- Keep your hair from drying out or breaking after repeated exposure to the sun by cutting back on blow drying. Air dry it whenever possible. Work a leave-in conditioner through hair before any lengthy exposure to the sun. Try one with an SPF in it.
- When all else fails, wear a hat.
