Summertime Water Balloon Games

Wintertime is the season for snow and when there is snow everyone loves to have snowball fights. You see kids building forts and stockpiling snowballs and then they are ready to go. Some of these same kinds of ideas you can apply in the summertime too. When it is a nice day outside, get some balloons, fill them with water, and have a balloon war.
If your kids throwing balloons at each other are not something you’re too keen of, then that’s ok because there are so many fun uses for water balloons. One other way is to have a competition by setting up a target and seeing who can hit it the most times. If you want to make it a little more challenging, then add that the balloon needs to be broken when it hits the target. To make it even more challenging, you could add the rule that they have to hit the target without breaking the balloon, especially with older kids.
Of course, you could always play water balloon baseball too. With this game, all you do is replace the baseball with water balloons. This is a good game to help cool off, since the batter is going to get wet. A person who hits the balloon and bursts it has an automatic home run. When the balloon does not burst, then it’s considered a strike.
Another game that could be fun is catch. The point would be to have each person throw the balloon between one another without bursting it. All of these games are fun, especially on a hot day. Since there is water involved, there is a good chance of getting wet, so make sure it is nice enough before playing any of these games.
After playing any of these types of games, clean up. This is important, since there is always a chance that a small child or animal could get a hold of one of the small pieces that are left and choke on it. Clean up time could be a game in itself. Use incentives as a way to get the kids to pick up the pieces of balloons. Tell them that the person with the most pieces in the end will get a surprise. Or, on another note, you could give each kid a specific color balloon and let them know that is the color balloon that they are responsible for picking up.
As you can see, there are many ways to have fun in the summer. Creativity is key in making different ways for everyone to have fun. Always think of safety as well and everyone is sure to have a fun filled safe summer.
