summertime-kids-funThe end of June has come, so school is out, and the kids are full of excitement. Sometimes not knowing how to entertain your kids for the entire summer can make things become a little overwhelming. Usually they are accustomed to having school all day and that tends to keep them busy. Now they are free and need you to keep them occupied. So, what are you going to do?

Various activities are a great way for them to learn and to have fun, but keep in mind that they need play time as well. So, make sure to include some time for them to play while you plan outings and different activities for them to do. Free playtime varies according to the age of the child and their level of independence. With younger children, they need supervision when playing, but older children will enjoy some time to get away by going outside or in their room.

Remember either way, free playtime gives you some time to do things, while they play. Even with younger children, you can watch them if inside and do some of the things that you need to do. While outside with younger kids, you will want to make sure to have your devoted attention to them, in case something happens.

Give the kids some opportunity for input. Have a group meeting, sit down, and think together. Before having a little meeting, make sure to plan a few different options first and then give them a say to how everyone will spend the day. By letting them participate in the planning, they are more likely to participate and have fun. On the days that there is a particular activity planned, without the chance of change, just make sure to let them know.

Give the kids some choices, but not too many. Make sure to limit the choices you give them to two or three. The days there are no choices, just tell them so and what the plan is for the day. Summer is sure to be fun-filled for all, when there is balance. Equal out the time they have to spend on free play or independent time to match the time spent on planned activities. You don’t want to overwhelm them and have everyone tired and upset.

A good balance on everything will ensure a summer that is fun filled for all. The last thing you want is the kids complaining they are bored and not giving you anytime for yourself. Take the time to plan and it is sure to pay off in the end, not only for you, but for them too.
