Posted on May 3, 2010 by Kate
Weddings are often very expensive. No matter what your personal budget or financial means may be, a fabulous wedding is always expensive. For those of us trying to keep those extravagant costs down, there are a few option to those who don’t mind adding some personal creativity. With a little extra time and thought, you can still make your wedding memorable – right down to the wedding favors for your guests.
Wedding favors are small gifts left for guests by the bride and groom as a token of appreciation for their attendance. The tradition of wedding favors is a very old one. The type of wedding favors varies, usually based on the theme of the wedding. Of course there’s a huge market for just buying wedding favors outright from a store or online – usually with a hefty price tag. However, with a bit of creativity and some dedicated time, you can easily make memorable wedding favors on a budget.
Depending on the theme or color scheme of your wedding, the possibilities are endless when it comes to wedding favors. Traditionally, wedding favors usually included a sugar sweet of some sort. Candy, bonbons, chocolates and so on are most popular. Small trinkets are also common. So, depending on your theme you could choose any one of several clever idea combinations below:
Small candy jars:
- Filled with any type of sugary sweet. Wrap with cellophane and a bright ribbon to match your color scheme. Your guests can reuse the candy jar at home for more than just holding candy (coins, pins, jewelry, or any small collection of neeful items).
- If you don’t want to use sweets, fill with colored sands and/or a combination of small stones and shells. Add a hand written note on a small card with whatever saying or motto suits your wedding theme or you as a couple.
- A small flower arrangement in water, or on colored sand, florist moss or even colored tissue paper.
Home made confectionary or goodies:
- Personalized cookies, cupcakes or any kind of small cake or confectionary. Add the couple’s name and wedding date in frosting.
- A handful of small candies in colored cellophane with a personalized hand written card tied by a bright ribbon.
Handmade items:
- Have a friend or family member who is crafty sew or make small cloth pillows. Embroider, cross stitch or use crafting pens or paint to add the couple’s name and wedding date.
- Votive candle arrangement. Use crafting supply boxes (clear or not) and fill with small pebbles, stones or florist moss. Place a votive in a small glass vase in the center. Arrange with your wedding colors or theme.
- Handmade soaps. Use various scents or just choose one. Wrap with bright ribbon and a hand written card with the couple’s name and wedding date on it.
The ideas are endless! With a bit of creativity and a little help, you can make memorable wedding favors yourself to save money for an even more fabulous honeymoon.
